For its 20th anniversary, the Blachère Foundation is offering a new art centre

This year, the Blachère Foundation celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The opportunity to make a new start by moving from the industrial area of Apt and to settle in a new place more bucolic in the heart of the Luberon: the Gare de Bonnieux. Still under construction, the new art centre will welcome the public for its first exhibition ‘Chimères’ on Friday, June 30.

At the corner of a small street at the entrance of Bonnieux, chainsaws, sanders and paint rollers are busy to give a youthful boost to the old station of the commune. For good reason, the Blachère Foundation has closed the doors of its art centre in Apt, where it has been working for the past twenty years to move to a new location. The latter, still under construction, will be available to the public on Friday, June 30.

«This new place is accompanied by a new approach, that of welcoming a wider audience, including tourists, but not only Vauclusians who love to do local tourism», reveals Christine Alain-Launay Blachère, Director of the Foundation. As the industrial area of Apt is not ideal in terms of location, the Foundation has been looking for a new art centre to put its bags in for several years. The Gare de Bonnieux has been liberated. It’s the perfect place.

A new place different but inspired by the old

If we had to venture into the industrial area in Apt, the Gare de Bonnieux will be much more convenient to access. On the one hand, it is close to the D900, which connects Apt to Avignon, but it is also located next to the bike route. Unlike the one in Apt, the art center of Bonnieux offers a breathtaking view of nature, in the heart of the Luberon. Thus, the Foundation expects to receive a fairly diverse audience.

We will be able to reach an audience that does not expect to find contemporary African art here at all.”
